During 2004 Anschlaege realised the mobile newspaper Kraut. As suggested in the title, this action sought to investigate the notion of national identity. The editorial and production resources of Kraut were housed in a portable kiosk that journeyed for three months throughout Germany. The newspaper surveyed a diversity of communities and exposed the clichés and complexities of German national identity.

The current and perhaps most important action being realised by Anschlaege is the transformation of their new studio space. From all accounts it appears to be the genuine article – a functional multidisciplinary collective space. The resuscitated building embodies the founding principles of the Dosto action, in that the studio renovation revitalises abandoned space and invests an unexpected energy into the local community.

Christian and his colleagues share a commitment to political and social issues and the actions the studio have realised reflect this collective spirit.

Anschlaege proffers an alternative model of design practice and the sense of potential is exciting and inspiring.

Vielen Dank Christian.
